Qais’s Story
Qais is 14 years old. His family lives in the first district of Kabul city. His father is addicted to drugs, and his mother separated from his father nine years ago. He lived with his mother, stepfather, a 10-year-old stepbrother, and a 2-year-old sister.
Mien’s Story
Mien, like her friends, enjoyed spending time together and frequently visited her close friend's rental room for social gatherings and chatting. However, one day, she discovered a hidden phone recording her while she was taking a shower. Shocked and terrified, Mien reported the incident to the police, but no evidence was found.
The dreamer’s Story
I was born and raised in the highlands area, in a farming family. Our 9x generation like me grew up playing and studying by ourselves as our parents were busy working in the fields. I also have a habit of not sharing my feelings or thoughts with my family; it's as if I put those thoughts in my inner box and lock it away.
Tien’s Story
Tien was trafficked from Vietnam to China at the young age of 16, where she was sold to 3 different Chinese men. Almost two years later, she managed to escape back to Vietnam, but due to financial difficulties, she couldn’t continue her studies and instead took up a job at her uncle’s coffee shop to make money. To make things worse, her hopes of improving things were dashed as the people in her hometown avoided her and looked down on her.
Minea’s Story
Minea's life was filled with darkness and pain, enduring unimaginable horrors as a victim of human trafficking. Her dreams of a better future were shattered as she was sold multiple times, subjected to unspeakable abuse and violence. But through the support of Hagar, Minea found hope, healing, and the strength to fight for justice. With the assistance of Hagar's legal team, she bravely pursued her perpetrators, ultimately achieving justice and finding solace as they were sentenced to prison. Today, Minea is a survivor, an advocate, and a symbol of resilience. Her story reminds us of the urgent need to address human trafficking and support organizations like Hagar in their mission to empower survivors and create a world free from exploitation. Together, we can make a difference by taking action, raising awareness, and providing comprehensive support to survivors like Minea.
Binh’s Story
Binh grew up in the bustling and challenging environment of the wholesale market, learning to be tough and independent. However, her strength was overshadowed by the domestic violence she endured at home. Seeking help from Hagar, Binh received support and guidance to break free from the abuse. With the assistance of her case manager, she gained knowledge about the cycle of violence and developed a safety plan for herself and her children. Empowered by Hagar's legal counseling, Binh made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, putting an end to the violence in her life. Hagar also provided economic support, enabling Binh to build a stable life by starting her own shrimp stall. Despite the challenges, Binh is determined to take care of her children and finds motivation in their well-being. Grateful for Hagar's unwavering support, Binh encourages others in similar situations to seek help from Hagar and find their freedom and independence. Knowing that Hagar is always there for her, Binh feels safe and supported on her journey.
Dang’s Story
Like many girls who grew up in the Northern mountainous region, Dang did not receive family support for her education due to financial hardship. She always dreamed about wearing a uniform and going to school like other girls, however she found herself having to carry her family’s responsibilities at a very young age.
Dan’s Story
Dan’s father died when she was young, and her mother had to work hard to make ends meet for her family. Therefore, Dan always tried to find more work to help out her mother.
