Case Study: Impact of Prevention Approach— Cambodia

One of Hagar's strategic goals is to reduce the vulnerability of human trafficking and abuse among migrant workers and communities through local duty bearers and community engagement.

Hagar Cambodia worked closely with local duty bearers to establish and enhance the capacity of various community-based groups, including "good husbands and wives groups," "children and youth groups," and "church-led groups." Furthermore, the Hagar team provided capacity building to key government officials and relevant net-works concerning human trafficking, safe migration, and child protection. This enabled them to educate villagers and assist in safeguarding them from unsafe migration and abuse through close collaboration with the community-based groups (CBGs).

As a result of these efforts, local duty bearers and CBGs conducted 80 community awareness campaigns within the past 6 months, reaching over 5,000 migrant workers and community members.

I am immensely proud of the people in my community because of Hagar. Their transformations are truly inspiring as they embrace new responsibilities and commitments to their families and communities. These positive changes strengthen my faith in the power of community participation, something I did not believe in before. Hagar provides a wide range of training that not only equips individuals with knowledge and understanding but also cultivates val-ues of respect, unity, empathy, and responsibility. I am proud to see how these individuals take the lead in responding to issues of human trafficking and abuse within our community. I would like to thank Hagar for their support and for transforming the lives of our community members," said Mrs. Phalla, deputy commune chief of Pailin Province.
