The Issues
What We Do
Hagar works to end the cycle of trafficking, slavery and abuse that exploits women and children in Afghanistan, Cambodia and Vietnam.
We help survivors heal, recover and thrive by helping them to secure safe accommodation, access counselling, get legal support, complete their education and find suitable employment.
We help communities create change by providing training and awareness to help stop trafficking, slavery and abuse of women and children.
We advocate for Australia to be a leader in the movement to end to human trafficking, slavery and abuse and believe governments, companies, civil society and citizens all have an important role to play
Issues We Tackle
Human trafficking, modern slavery and abuse presents a global crisis. Right now, there are millions of people trafficked, enslaved, exploited and abused.
To find out more, visit Hagar Resources here. Hagar is committed to supporting more communities where trafficking, slavery, exploitation and abuse are growing in prevalence. We want to empower women and children with skills to take action against the traffickers and abusers.
Our Impact
Hagar Australia, as part of the global Hagar network, is ambitious to transform as many lives as possible and do all that we can to prevent human trafficking, slavery and abuse. To hold ourselves to account we established four goals to guide our work.
You can read our full Strategic Plan here.
Last year we celebrated:
- Supporting 1,126 survivors on their journey to healing and independence.
- Empowering 865 women and children through education and job training.
- Equipping 8,645 community members with training to help prevent human trafficking and domestic violence, including through online safety and positive parenting.
Our Approach
The Whole Journey
Hagar sees each individual as unique. Each of our clients has a unique story and the way in which they experience the impacts of trauma is personal to them. For this reason, our approach to supporting each client is tailored uniquely to their needs and aspirations. Hagar works with each survivor to; – secure safe accommodation – access counselling and case management – obtain legal support – progress their education – secure employment – reintegrate into the community. We call this the whole journey.
Ending the Cycle of Trauma
The cycle of trauma often leads to more exploitation and abuse. We want to end that cycle. Here’s how: We call this the whole journey.
