Mann Hoen's Story

Mrs. Mann Hoen, a 49-year-old mother, lives with her family in Lavea Village, Siem Reap province. Isolated from the rest of the community, their home lacks electricity, severely limiting their livelihood opportunities and adding daily challenges.

Without electricity, the family faces difficulties at night, especially for their 80-year-old blind grandmother. The children are afraid to go downstairs to use the toilet in the dark, and studying at night is nearly impossible. The family relies on expensive lanterns and candles from the local shop, where supplies are limited and prices are high. Additionally, without electricity, raising animals and growing food is a constant struggle.

In late 2023, Hagar, in collaboration with local authorities, identified Mann Hoen’s family as needing urgent support. One of their most pressing needs was access to electricity. Thanks to a project funded by ERIKS, Hagar provided the family with a small-scale solar panel, along with other essential support, such as monthly food supplies, counselling, and small business assistance.

When the solar panels were installed, the family was overjoyed. Electricity has brought new hope and optimism for their future.

Hoen shared, “With this solar panel, my house now has lights, which allow my children to study at night. We can charge our devices, cook, boil drinking water, and use electricity for raising animals and home gardening. Most importantly, my children can now learn at night, and I can help them with their studies. They also feel safe going downstairs to the toilet at night because the lights guide their way. I hope this will help them get a good education and achieve their dreams soon.”
