Generation Next : Generation Now

During this three-day immersion experience in Phnom Penh you will have the opportunity to meet a survivor who has been supported and empowered to transform their life, visit a foster family who cares for children, experience life in a Cambodian school, and meet with key members of Hagar’s team of inspirational staff.

Style For Life Day | July 31, 2016
Hagar teamed up with Eleven Australia and some of the best hair salons in Australia for the fourth year in a row to turn Sunday, July 31 into the ultimate good hair day!
Style for Life is one of our favourite days of the year. Wonderful people from hair salons all over Australia donate their precious time to cut, colour and blow-dry their way through a Sunday to raise money for Hagar’s work with survivors of severe human rights abuses. Our promise is that 100 percent of the money from your service will go towards the recovery and economic empowerment of women and children who have survived trafficking or severe abuse.
The unique (hair-raising) fundraising idea came out of a blue sky conversation between Hagar Ambassador Rachel Griffiths, OzDare Brand Director, Rob Gattuso and leading Australian hairdresser, Joey Scandizzo – three people brought together because of a shared belief in the work that Hagar does. In its fouth year we raised $43,000 to support urgent recovery programs.
Ladies’ Lunch To Liberate | Thursday September 3, 2015
In the first week of spring, 360 ladies gathered at Carousel, Albert Park for Hagar’s annual Lunch to Liberate. At this sell-out event, guests were treated to Food & Desire’s divine culinary offerings, Moet and PashaMama wines and a fabulous gift from Husk.
We were honoured to have Australia’s Ambassador for Women and Girls, Natasha Stott Despoja as our special guest to share her experience after visiting Hagar Cambodia earlier this year.
For the first time we were joined by a Hagar survivor from Cambodia, Ra Long (right). Though Hagar’s Client Care Manager, Sreyna Sam (left), Ra bravely shared the story of her harrowing up-bringing and sexual assault, and her emotional recovery journey with Hagar. There was not a dry eye in the room when Ra proudly said she has now found happiness, she is in a loving marriage and is studying pharmacology at university in Phnom Penh.
The lunch was an overwhelming success with great feedback from all who attended. Cheyka Keebaugh, Co-founder of The Big Group and Real Housewife of Melbourne commented, ‘As a first timer to the Hagar’s ladies lunch, I was excited to see such a great dynamic group of woman and how passionate everyone was … The emotional speech made by a survivor was raw and heartfelt and made me have a greater understanding of what can be done to improve the life of so many women. I can’t wait to attend next year’s lunch and I really hope to see it grow and grow. There is no stopping a group of woman who have a passion and desire to help.‘
A special thanks goes out to all our event partners and donors. We are forever grateful for your ongoing support.

Style For Life | July 26, 2015
On July 26, participating hair salons across Australia volunteered their time and donated all proceeds to Hagar. The event was generously supported by Eleven Australia, hairdresser of the year, Joey Scandizzo, Hagar Patron, Rachel Griffiths and Style for Life Ambassador, Demi Harman.
The event raised an amazing $60,000, which supported 47 Hagar survivors through the esteemed Economic Empowerment program in Cambodia including intensive work readiness training, ‘on the job’ vocational training, employment placement, two years of follow up case management and ultimately, improved livelihoods of survivors.
Thank you for all of the hairdressers and their clients for supporting the day!
